This year’s theme, “U.S.–China Relations: Balance and Conflict,” explored the political, economic, and legal forces shaping the contemporary bilateral relationship. This year’s symposium began with a keynote address delivered by MIT professor Dr. Yasheng Huang, and included three panels: the Socio‑Cultural Panel, featuring Seth Robertson (Lecturer in Philosophy, Harvard College), Margaret Y.K. Woo (Professor, School of Law, Northeastern) and Xiaoxiao Shen (Assistant Research Professor, Northeastern); the Security Panel, featuring Ambassador Jorge Heine (Former Ambassador of Chile to Chinal) and Raymond Wang (Postdoctoral Fellow, Columbia University; Research Fellow, Harvard’s Belfer Center; Incoming Assistant Professor, Boston University); and the Economics Panel, featuring Dan Murphy (Executive Director, the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government, Harvard Kennedy School), Michael Klein (Professor, The Fletcher School; Founder of EconoFact), and Francisco Bencosme (Director, Government Affairs, the US‑China Business Council).
Uniquely, this year’s symposium was supported by graduate students at the Fletcher School of International Law and Diplomacy.
